Scale aeromodelling is concerned with the building and flying of a miniature replica of a full size aircraft. The competition classes combine the aspects of both constructing an accurate representation and then flying the aircraft in a realistic manner.

All classes require the competitor to research the history of the original aircraft in order to maximise their score.

The fidelity to scale (static) part requires the competitor to provide a documentation pack including 3 view drawings, photographs and proof of colour. The aircraft is then judged to assess how accurately the builder has reproduced the original.

The competitor then has to fly a mix of compulsory and optional manoeuvres. The flight schedule should contain appropriate manoeuvres and be flown and displayed in a realistic manner..

Judging panels consist of between 3 and 5 members and marks are awarded between 0 and 10, for each flight manoeuvre and each element of static judging.

For all RC classes, the maximum dry weight is 15kg, and for CL it is 6kg (7kg for multi engine models).

All entries have to be sanctioned by each individual countries’ National Aero Club (NAC).

No direct entries from individuals will be permitted.

F4B – Control Line

In F4B all static judging is performed from 5 meters with no up close assessment of the model. There are less stringent documentation requirements. The minimum requirement is a three view drawing and up to five photographs. It is not essential for the competitor to have built the model. The balance of total marks awarded is 2:1 in favour of the flying.

F4C – Builder of the Model

This is the premier class. In F4C it is expected that the competitor has constructed everything on the model themselves. Static judging is performed from 5 meters for the overall accuracy of the model and then from 1 meter for the detail, realism and craftsmanship of the model. Attention is also given to the level of complexity involved. The competitor will have the opportunity to fly three rounds. The static and flight marks are awarded in equal proportions.

F4H – Standoff Scale

In F4H all static judging is performed from 5 meters with no up close assessment of the model. There are less stringent documentation requirements. The minimum requirement is a three view drawing and up to five photographs. It is not essential for the competitor to have built the model. The balance of total marks awarded is 2:1 in favour of the flying.
